Weekend Recap – 1 Week Countdown

This weekend we hit the 1 week countdown mark.  It still seems so surreal that this is really happening in less than 1 week.  It feels like I have been planning this wedding forever but it also feels like time flew by.  It’s a weird, excited, anxious feeling.  But I am ready now and could not be more excited for Saturday to be here.

The weekend started on Friday evening.  My maid of honor came into town to pick up her dress and decided to stay for dinner.  I went with her to pick up the dress so I got to see her in it.  It is gorgeous and I love the color!  I can’t wait to see all the girls in their dress and I hope they like it as much as I do.  My friend was nice enough to cook us dinner that night.  She made chicken katsu, broccoli and rice.  It was delicious.  We spent the rest of the evening sipping on some sake, playing games and watching a movie.

She ended up spending the night so we all went out to breakfast in the morning.  We tried a new place downtown and it was delicious.  After that she headed home and we headed to our final meeting with the photographer.  He wanted to go over the timeline for the day so now it is all figured out.  Then it was off to the next errand which was to return my rental car.  I got into an accident last month and it turns out the cost to fix my car was going to be more than the blue book value of the car, so my insurance wouldn’t pay for it.  Thinking it over, I decided it’s more worth it to spend the money on a new car since my car was over 10 years old and had almost 150k miles on it.  Seemed like a better idea for the long term.  Not exactly the best timing to be buying a new car a week before the wedding, but such is life.

Once I returned the rental it was time to buy a new car.  I decided to upgrade to an SUV with future children and car seats in mind.  It is already being called the ‘mom car’.  It’s only been a couple days with the new car, but I am loving it.  It’s a lot roomier, it rides smooth, and I just feel safe in it.  It will take some getting used to, especially with parking, but I am sure it will feel like mine soon enough.

After all those errands I was starving and it was perfect timing because my fiance’s family was planning to go out to dinner.  Since everyone was in town and available, we went out to dinner with his grandparents and uncle and cousins.  It was so fun to sit down with all of them and really see how they interact and get to know them better.  Plus it’s fun to hear how excited everyone is getting for the wedding.

Sunday was a much more relaxed day and I didn’t have anything planned.  The fiance had to work so I was on my own.  I got up early and went for a run which felt really good because it had been a while.  The first run of the year.  I had some breakfast and did some cleaning but then headed over to my parents house for the rest of the day.  Got all our wedding stuff in boxes and ready to bring to the venue later this week.  Ran a couple errands to get some a few things for the honeymoon.  Then my brother came over for lunch, we played some games, and my Mom cooked us homemade spaghetti and meatballs for dinner.  I stayed a little later to watch the Golden Globes with my Mom before heading home.

And now here we are at Monday morning.  Five days until the wedding!!  Is it Saturday yet?!

Happy New Year!

And just like that, it’s 2017.  This is going to be a big year for myself and my family so I could not be more excited for the new year to be here.  Lots of changes happening this year.  With our wedding to start.  In just 11 days I will be married to my best friend.  It is so surreal that the big day is almost here already.  I am ready for it and I know that it is happening soon, but yet it still doesn’t feel completely real.  Not until that morning when I put on my dress or maybe when I see him for the first time that day in his tux, or maybe when I see him waiting for me at the altar will it feel real.  I am so excited for all of those moments.  In just 11 short days.

Before I get too far ahead of myself I want to recap the last week.  I only had to work half a day last Friday.  My maid of honor came into town to get her dress fitted so we went out to lunch after.  Then the fiance and I met with our DJ to make sure we were all on the same page with music and timing for the night.  After that I watched the fiance and his mom practice their first dance.  They are doing a choreographed dance that I cannot wait to see them do at the wedding.  Once they were tired practicing we took his mom to the mall so she could return some shoes and we could change something on the tux rental order.  We decided to make the tux rentals a full package, which meant we only had to add cuff links and studs, so that the fiance could get $600 off a suit.  Pretty good deal if you ask me.  Then we took his mom out to dinner and headed home to watch a movie before bed.

The fiance actually had all weekend off of work which was rare and so nice.  Saturday was New Years Eve and he spent the morning disc golfing with his Dad.  I was going to go with them but it was an 18-hole course and I am just not that good yet.  So I went over to my parents house instead and got a few wedding things done.  Then when he got back we went to the store to get a few appetizer things to bring to the NYE party we went to that night.  We made a hot artichoke dip and a cajun dip.  Once his friend showed up we all headed out to my brother’s house for a little get together with some friends.  Two of the couple’s are pregnant so it was nothing wild, but still a lot of fun.  We played some games, had some drinks, and left shortly after midnight.

The fiance got up early on Sunday to go real golfing with a few friends.  I went over to my parents house to make homemade pasta with my Dad, as we do every year on New Years Day.  We invited my future in-laws over for dinner that night to finalize the seating chart as well as stuff bags for our favors.  It was such a fun evening.  The seating chart process was way easier than I thought it would be.  And the bag stuffing went way faster than I thought.  It was so nice to have all those extra hands.

I had the day off yesterday, but the fiance had to work.  So he got up early and I stayed in my PJs for a while.  I tried a new almond flour waffle recipe and it was awful so I will not be sharing that one.  After that I headed to my parents house to go car shopping with my Dad.  I had to say goodbye to my poor Honda Civic last week and face the facts that I need a new car.  I got into a car accident in early December and it took the auto shop 3 weeks to decide it’s totaled.  The damage wasn’t that bad, but it was all on my back tire which ended up messing with the alignment.  Turns out the cost to fix it was more than what the insurance company valued the car at so they claim it as totaled.  The car is over 10 years old with about 130,000 miles on it, so it was bound to happen sooner or later.  But I do think I could have held on to it for a little while longer had this accident not happened.  But that’s life, and sometimes you just have to roll with it.  So now I am looking into getting an SUV with future kids and family trips in mind.

They didn’t have the model car I wanted available yesterday, so I left empty handed.  But they are getting new cars in this week so it could happen soon.  After car shopping I ran some errands and did some cleaning at home.  But then headed back to my parents house for dinner to try our homemade pasta.  It was delicious as always.  After that I headed home to start taking down the Christmas decorations and get ready for the new work week.  I am getting so lucky with all these holidays and short weeks that it’s going to be so hard coming back to work after the honeymoon.  I just have to make it through this 4 day week and then next week I’m only working 3 days and then it’s vacation mode!!!  In less than 2 weeks I will be on a sandy beach, hopefully working on my tan.

Weekend Recap – Christmas Overload

As I mentioned in my last post, Christmas was a four day celebration for me this year.  Starting on Friday, the day before Christmas Eve, all the way through yesterday, the day after Christmas.  Having fun is exhausting.

So Friday afternoon we headed to my aunt and uncle’s house to visit with some relatives on my Dad’s side of the family.  Their daughter (my cousin) lives down in LA so they don’t get to see her that often.  She decided to spend Christmas with her parents this year and brought her 2 little girls with her.  Her youngest daughter is one year old and I have only seen her maybe twice, so it was so great to see all of them again.  It was a pretty small group, with just a few aunts and uncles and cousins.  We went in the early afternoon and stayed for an early dinner and dessert.

Saturday was Christmas Eve, which we normally do a friend’s dinner and gift exchange on this day.  However, one of the friends had to work so we switched it to yesterday instead since most people didn’t have to work anyway.  My fiance’s family has a nice crab dinner and goes to evening mass on Christmas Eve.  The last couple of years I have gone to their house for dinner but then we split ways and I go to the gift exchange and the fiance goes to church.  This year we actually got to spend the entire day together.  Since my parent’s didn’t have any plans anymore, the fiance and I went over for breakfast and spent the morning with them.  Then we went to his parent’s house for dinner and church.

Sunday was Christmas!  We got an early start at my parent’s house to open presents so my brother and sister-in-law could head over to her parent’s house after.  We all met there at 8am and had breakfast and opened presents.  Then at about 10am the fiance and I headed over to his parents house to open more presents with them.  After that we had to get ready because we went to Stockton that afternoon for dinner at my aunt and uncle’s house.  One of my cousin’s just had a baby last week so it was super exciting to get to meet her!  She is adorable.  My brother and sister-in-law also FINALLY announced that they are pregnant!  They told us about a month ago, but decided they wanted to wait until Christmas to tell all of the extended family in person.  It has been so hard to keep my mouth shut.  But now I don’t have to!  I am so happy for them and so excited to be an auntie!

Yesterday I didn’t have plans until the evening.  So I slept in and put together a few Christmas presents in the morning.  Then I headed to my parent’s house and took the dogs for a walk.  Then we spent the afternoon playing games before heading over to our friends house.  We played more games over there, had dinner, and did a white elephant gift exchange.  We have a new theme every year and this year’s theme was ‘adventure awaits’.  I ended up bringing home a gift card for a horneblower cruise so I was happy.  It’s a little sad that it is all over now and I’m definitely not looking forward to taking down the tree.  Although I guess there is still New Years to look forward to in less than a week!

Weekend Recap – Getting in the Christmas Spirit

This weekend was a fun filled Christmas one.  As always, it started on Friday.  Our original plan was to take our parents out to dinner at the restaurant we will have our rehearsal dinner at in order to sample the food and decide on the menu for that night.  However, since it is the holiday season, the restaurant was closing early for a private event.  Instead, we took them out to a middle eastern restaurant that was new to all of us.  And it was delicious.  After dinner we took them to the house of lights.  It is this one guy’s house who goes above and beyond with the Christmas lights in his front yard.  There is a new theme every year and he allows people to walk through and take pictures.  We took my Dad last year for the first time and my Mom this year for the first time.  The theme this year was gingerbread cookies and he used over half a million lights.  It’s a really incredible display and always a fun little tradition we like to do.

Saturday the fiance went crabbing with his brother and dad in the morning which left me to do whatever I wanted.  First, I got up early and went for a run.  Then I came home and had breakfast and took the pup for a quick walk.  I had a meeting with the photographer later in the morning to pick up our guest book as well as go over the timing for the day of the wedding.  It’s hard because we have to work backwards from the ceremony since we plan to take most of our pictures before.  But we also have to account for hair and makeup time in the morning so the timing is really important.  After the meeting I ran a couple of errands and worked on a few wedding projects as my parents house.

That night the fiance and I headed up to a friends house for our annual Christmas movie night.  For the past few years a few our family friends have gotten together to watch a Christmas movie and have dinner together.  In the previous years we have watched The Polar Express, The Santa Clause, and A Christmas Story.  This year we watched Elf.  They all decorated Christmas cookies earlier that day so while we watched the movie we ate cookies and drank hot chocolate.  After the movie we made the long drive home, picked up the pup, and headed straight to bed.

Sunday we didn’t have plans until that evening.  I was planning to get up and go for a run but I decided to let myself sleep in instead.  And it was amazing.  Once the fiance was awake we started all of our chores for the day.  We had some laundry to do and Christmas shopping to finish.  It was a lot of back and forth between our parents house but we got everything done.  We also went grocery shopping and made soup for the week.  That evening we went downtown to watch the fiance’s Dad perform with his brass group.  Every year they play Christmas music at the brewery downtown.  This year I took my parents and we had dinner and drinks while we listened.  It was the perfect way to end the weekend.

Weekend Recap – Dress, Flowers, and Cookies

This weekend was a busy one.  It started on Friday which included getting a marriage license, having my final dress fitting, and a final meeting with the florist.  We tried to get our marriage license last weekend at our local county clerk’s office, however, that is the one thing they don’t do there.  So we went to the main county clerk’s office early Friday morning to get it done.

Later that morning my best friend came to my final dress fitting appointment.  The alterations lady recommended her being there so she could see how to zip me into my dress and how to bustle it correctly.  My friend hadn’t seen the dress since it was first ordered, so it was really fun to show her how it looks now after all the alterations.  Little story time about the dress fitting.  So my maid of honor and fiance have been trying to be healthier and work out for the last few months in order to prep and look their best for the wedding.  I decided  I didn’t want to put any extra stress on myself to lose weight, so I have just been trying to be healthy without doing a crazy crash diet.  Well my maid of honor thought it was crazy that I’m the only one not doing a wedding diet.  Let me tell you, maybe I should have listened.  When she went to zip up my dress she told me to suck it in, which I did and she buttoned it, but then I let out a huge exhale and popped a bottom off!  The dress fit fine, it was just the dramatic exhale I did that caused the button to pop off.  But it still made me feel a little bad, so I think this next month I should try a little extra hard to eat healthy.

After the dress fitting we went out to lunch downtown before the next meeting.  The last appointment of the day was with the florist that afternoon.  She had a mock centerpiece made to make sure I still like the look, which I loved!  She did a mock of the tall centerpiece, which is very tall and dramatic and I love it.  And also to confirm the counts and types were all correct and I didn’t want to change anything.  I bought some table numbers online to stick into the centerpieces that I was hoping would have arrived by Friday to bring to the appointment.  Of course they arrived on Saturday instead.  I’m sure they will be fine though.

Friday night me and the fiance met up with a friend in the city for dinner and drinks.  We went out for dim sum which was delicious and then had a few cocktails on the roof of my friend’s apartment building.  It was such a cool view.  That’s the one plus of being in the city is having access to the roof with amazing views.

Saturday was the only day that I didn’t have any plans for the weekend.  The fiance slept in because he stayed up a lot later than me.  So I got up early and had breakfast, fed the dog, and was tired of waiting for him to wake up.  So I headed to my parent’s house to do some laundry.  He woke up in time for lunch so we went out for soup which was perfect because it was raining all day.  Then we went home and watched Christmas movies and meal prepped the rest of the day.

Sunday I went with my parents to one of my aunts house to make our annual Christmas cookies.  These are not your average Christmas cookies though, they are an Italian tradition.  They are in a crescent shape with an almond paste filling inside wrapped inside of a pastry dough.  It’s hard to explain, but trust me, they are delicious!  I don’t know why we only make them once a year.  I really need to get the recipe so I can make them whenever I want.  We went in the afternoon to make the cookies and stayed for dinner.  My aunt made us homemade lasagna followed by homemade mocha’s and egg eggnog lattes.  It was the perfect ending to a busy weekend.

Weekend Recap – Thanksgiving

How is it Wednesday already?!  This week is flying by, and I am not mad about it.  But I wanted to take a minute and recap my weekend, which happened to be Thanksgiving.  My parents have hosted Thanksgiving at their house for just about as long as I can remember.  More family used to come, but we still have a nice group of about 20 people every year.  All of my Dad’s siblings come and some of their kids still come (who now have kids of their own too!).  A couple of Aunt’s on my Mom’s side come and sometimes my Uncle and cousins.  It is always such a nice day and fun to see the family again.

This year my Mom debated hosting because of the cancer and she tends to be more tired now.  But she wasn’t ready to give it up this year.  With the help of my amazing sister-in-law (SIL) and myself, we were able to do a lot of the prepping and cooking that she normally does.  The day before Thanksgiving my brother went over to move furniture and set up tables in the living room.  That night I went over and made a carrot cake for dessert as well as chopped a bunch of veggies for the stuffing and the Brussels sprouts.  My SIL brought over the stuff to make the gravy and my Mom made the fruit salad.  Then we ordered Mexican food for dinner and were all asleep by 9pm.

The next morning I decided to go for a run before heading over to help my Mom so I wouldn’t feel so guilty for all the food I was about to eat that day!  As soon as I got to my parents house, the SIL and I started peeling and cutting potatoes for the mashed potatoes.  Once the potatoes were done, I made the stuffing and cooked the raviolis.  Then people started showing up, who thankfully brought the appetizers, a green salad, and dessert.  My Dad is always in charge of the turkey, and we even decided to do a ham this year too.  After the turkey was done cooking, the SIL made the gravy and we baked the veggies and croissants.  Then dinner was finally ready!  For dessert we had pumpkin pie, lemon pie, carrot cake, and a pumpkin pie cake.  Everything was so delicious!  Even though I help my Mom every year, this year I stepped up my game so that she wouldn’t have to do much.  It really made me appreciate how much she does for us to make this holiday amazing for our family.  Whenever she is ready to hand down the torch, I hope I can pull it all off myself, because they are some big shoes to fill.

The day after Thanksgiving, I had every intention of getting up and going for a run, but instead I laid in bed and slept in until 10am.  It was amazing.  The fiancé had the entire weekend off, so I took full advantage of spending time with him.  Once we finally got up and dressed, we borrowed his parents truck to switch kitchen tables for the new one his parents bought us as a wedding gift.  While it’s a little bitter sweet because our old table was the one my Dad grew up with at his childhood home, I am so grateful for this gift and all the delicious dinners that will be had around it for many years to come.  We also switched beds with one at my parent’s house because the fiancé claims our bed is too soft.  Plus the new bed is bigger so I was okay with it.  After all that we had lunch (leftovers) at the future in-laws.  Then the fiancé stayed to do laundry and go disc golfing while I went to my parents house to make turkey soup.  After that I came home and had more leftovers for dinner with the fiancé and we watched a movie.

Saturday morning we decided to hit the mall as soon as it opened to get a few things.  We wanted to make an adjustment on the wedding tuxes, buy a few Christmas gifts, and also a crockpot for ourselves.  That night we had dinner at the future in-laws for Monte Christo sandwiches.  This is my favorite part about Thanksgiving.  The fiancés family make these every year and I think I like them even better than the Thanksgiving dinner.  After dinner we went over our ceremony with his Mom to make sure we had all the cultural things in order before we have our last meeting with the pastor this week.  We couldn’t stay long because we had to get to his brother’s place for a surprise birthday party for his girlfriend.  Although Abby ruined the surprise by barking as they were unlocking the door, I think she was still slightly surprised and still had a good time.  We also couldn’t stay there long because the fiancé had to work the next day.

The fiancé had to work all day Sunday so I spent the day at my parent’s house.  I got up and took Abby for a walk first in hopes to tire her out a bit.  Later that morning I went with my parents to pick out a Christmas tree.  I enjoy doing this with them because I have a fake tree now and don’t get to experience that anymore.  The fiancé is allergic to Christmas trees.  Don’t even get me started on how sad that makes me.  But I guess it saves us money, so it’s a win?  Then I spent the rest of the day lounging around and watching Gilmore Girls with my Mom.  Not gonna lie, I was a little disappointed with the new series.  I feel like they didn’t have enough material and it was weird and dragged on at points.  But I thought the ending was fitting and ended the show full circle.

And now here we are back to another work week after a long 4 day weekend.  It’s always hard.  But I have been busy with inspections which has been nice to get me out of the office.  Plus it’s December tomorrow which means I can almost officially start my 1 month countdown to the wedding!  Woooohoooo!!!  We are getting RSVPs in the mail every day and it is so exciting.  Although nobody has said no so far, which makes me a little nervous that we will be a tight crowd in there.  But oh well, it will be fun.  Just not so fun having to make the seating chart when there’s no wiggle room to move people around.  This weekend we have our last meeting with the pastor, hopefully meeting with the DJ, and getting our marriage license.  It’s all coming together.

Weekend Recap – Flowers and Fundraisers

This weekend was actually a pretty relaxed one.  Friday I officially got all of our invitations in the mail.  That was exciting.  Now we just wait for the responses to start coming in.  I also picked up a few of the bridesmaids dresses.  It was really cool to see them in the correct color this time, because the girls first went to try on dresses they didn’t have the right color in the store.  I absolutely love them and I can’t wait to see them on the girls!

Saturday wasn’t supposed to be very busy but it turned into a busy day.  The fiance and I have semi-opposite work schedules.  Well not really opposite, but we just don’t get to see each other very often during the week.  He works from 10am-10pm and I work a regular desk job.  So in the mornings we see each other for about 15 minutes while we are running around getting ready and half asleep.  Then by the time he gets home from work I am exhausted and already half asleep in bed.  The weekends are really our only time together.  And that’s just not enough for us.  So we are starting this new thing where we get up early and spend some time together in the mornings, whether it be taking the dog for a walk or having breakfast.  Saturday morning we got up early and took the dog for a walk AND had breakfast together.  It was quite nice.  This morning we actually got up early and went to the gym together.

After our morning walk I went to look at flowers with a friend of mine who is doing the bouquets for our wedding. She wanted to get a feel for what style and colors I like.  Once we had some things picked out I had to rush over to my future MIL’s school for a fundraiser she put on.  Every year around this time she usually has her students sell cookies to raise money for all their choir activities.  This year she decided to have a friend come and put on an hour-long Zumba class.  It was a lot of fun, and such a good turn out of people.  We had worked up quite an appetite from dancing so we all decided to go out to lunch.

After lunch the fiance and I ran a couple errands, one of which included picking up my rings!  We ordered my wedding band last week but then I decided to have it, along with my engagement ring, resized to fit me better.  I’m not allowed to wear, or even see, the wedding band until the wedding day.  My fiance actually hid the box so I won’t be tempted.  Once we finished our errands we had to get home because my friend was coming over to hang out for the night.  She was coming from a Thanksgiving dinner with her Dad so she brought us a ton of leftovers.  It was all so yummy!  We spent the rest of the evening watching Christmas movies, making cookies and drinking hot chocolate.

My friend ended up spending the night so Sunday morning we went out for brunch.  After we ate we stopped by the mall so she could try to find some shoes for the wedding.  By then we were all kind of tired and it was starting to rain, so we went home, turned on a movie and we all took a nap.  After our nap my friend went home and the rest of the day was the perfect lazy Sunday.  I stayed in my sweats all day and watched movies.

Weekend Recap – Wedding and Birthday

This weekend was full of celebrations.  There was a friend’s wedding and my Mom’s birthday.  Friday night was nothing exciting.  I spent the evening doing laundry and prepping wedding invitation envelopes with stamps and return labels.  Saturday night was the wedding and Sunday was my Mom’s birthday.

Saturday morning I was planning to go for a run but instead had a lazy morning in bed with the fiance and the pup.  And I don’t regret it for one second.  Once we finally got up and out of bed we dropped the pup off at his parent’s house to play while we ran a few errands.  First we had to go do more laundry because he didn’t have any clean pants to wear for the wedding.  Then we went to the jewelry store and ordered my wedding band ring.  I had already picked one out last time we were there, but it was impossible to find the exact one again.  Since they all looked very similar, I picked out a different one that I loved and we ordered it.  Turns out it was a little bit cheaper too, which the fiance was happy about.

After that we headed to the mall to try and change the groomsmen’s vest for our wedding.  The vest we picked out has a subtle polka dot texture to it and the tie is striped.  I was worried this would be too many conflicting patterns and was hoping to change the vest to just a solid color with the striped tie.  Unfortunately, they did not have this option available in the color we want, so we have to stick with what we had.  We were going to head home but then realized that the fiance didn’t have any nice shirts to wear for the wedding that night.  So we headed over to Macy’s and picked out a nice shirt and tie.  By then we were starving so we grabbed some sandwiches and headed home to get ready for the wedding.

We carpooled with my parents to the wedding which was only about 30 minutes away.  The ceremony and reception were both at the same place.  The ceremony was inside, cocktails and dinner were outside and dancing was inside again.  It worked out perfectly to have everything so close and the weather was great so it never got too cold.  They did have heat lamps just in case.  One really cool part of the reception was when the DJ got the entire party to do the mannequin challenge.  Which is when you hold a pose while someone walks around filming a video of it so everyone looks like mannequins.  At first I thought there’s no way you could do this with so many people, but it actually turned out really cool and I think will be a fun memory for the bride and groom to have.

I think my favorite part of the evening was when they started the dancing and the bride and groom were feeling pretty good after a few cocktails and started bouncing all over the room.  The groom got a little too close to the cake table and knocked over their wedding cake on the floor!  Thankfully it didn’t completely smash and they were able to salvage most of it, but needless to say there was no cutting of the cake after that.  Also, thankfully the bride did not see this happen.  We didn’t stay for all of the dancing because my Mom got tired, but it was fine by me because my feet were starting to hurt.

Sunday was my Mom’s birthday and we had a casual family dinner planned for that night.  Before that I had a few more chores to get done.  The fiance went golfing with his friend, but in the meantime I did our last couple loads of laundry and went shopping with my Mom to get a few things for the wedding.  Once the fiance was done golfing we went grocery shopping for the week and then headed back to my parent’s house for dinner.  Unfortunately, my sister-in-law couldn’t come because she was sick and didn’t want to get my Mom sick.  I feel more bad that she was sick on her best friend’s wedding and had to leave early.  But such is life.  For dinner we had pork chops, pesto pasta and a green salad with apple pie for dessert.  It was all delicious and we went home happy and full.

This week is the last full week before Thanksgiving.  I am excited because I feel like I could use a little break.  But also kind of scary because that just means we are getting closer to the wedding and time is going to fly by at the end of the year.  The wedding this weekend was the last one we will attend before our own wedding.  It was very surreal to think about myself in the bride’s position but also made me that much more excited to finally marry my best friend.

Weekend Recap – Bridal Shower

This weekend was the last of my bridal showers.  It’s sad to see them over, but I think three was plenty.  Plus, that just means we are getting closer to the big day!  As always, let’s start with Friday first.  So Friday I had my second dress fitting.  The lady doing my alterations was going to take the dress in a little at the waist and bust, as well as hem the bottom and create a bustle in the back.  Friday afternoon I picked up my Mom and we headed to the bridal gown shop to try on the dress again and see if any final changes were needed before my last fitting, which will be next month.  We also ordered my veil while at the store.  I found a long veil with a lacy trim that looks absolutely perfect with my dress.  I’ve really been enjoying these fittings and getting the chance to try my dress on multiple times.  Each time I’ve tried it on I’ve loved it even more.  This time it fit me like a glove after the alterations and I am so excited to walk down the aisle in it.

Saturday morning I got up and took the pup for a nice long walk before the bridal shower.  This one was in town so thankfully we didn’t have to drive very far.  The theme for this one was a tea party, and they went above and beyond on the decorations.  It was absolutely perfect.  We had a variety of mini sandwiches, scones, and desserts for lunch.  They also had a few games to play.  One of the games was a memory game where I put on an apron filled with kitchen gadgets and walked around the room for everyone to memorize as many things as they could.  My favorite game was to guess my age in a variety of pictures over the years.  My Mom and I both got 2 wrong.  Oops.

After the shower we went home to change and then went right back for dinner with our 2 good family friends that were both in town for my shower.  It was so nice to have everyone together again.  We used to all go camping every summer and spent every Christmas Eve together for the last 20 years.  One of the family’s moved down to LA a few years ago so we haven’t all been able to get together except for the few weddings that have happened since then.  We spent the night playing games and watching old home videos of our many camping trips.

Sunday we had no plans.  It felt so good to get an extra hour of sleep with the time change, but I still woke up early.  So I got up and made homemade funfetti doughnuts before anyone else was awake.  We couldn’t sleep in too long though because we had to get to Costco right when it opened.  We needed to sign up for a Costco membership in order to book our honeymoon for one of their travel packages.  While there, we decided to do our grocery shopping and grab lunch.  Then we came home, booked the honeymoon, and took a much needed nap.  Not a very long one though because we had an afternoon tee time for golf with my Dad.  We played at the local golf course and I actually did better than last time, so I was happy.  And I only lost one ball in the water.  Making improvements!  After golf we headed home, cooked dinner and then meal prepped for the week.  We spent the rest of the evening looking up fun activities to do on the honeymoon and watching a show on Netflix.  Not a bad way to finish off the weekend.

Weekend Recap – Brew Crawl & Baby Shower

Another eventful weekend in the books.  And now it is almost November!  But more importantly – it’s my birthday today!  Happy Halloween!  It is an ongoing debate with my brother, but I swear I was a treat, not a trick.  Although he will never let me live it down that I ruined his trick-or-treating all those years ago, and I forever owe him candy.  I am 27 years old today.  Age never used to bother me, until last year.  I don’t know if it was the whole turning 26 and being kicked off my parent’s insurance for good that really makes you start feeling old.  Or just being closer to 30 rather than 20 now sounds old.  It is a weird feeling and I’m not so sure I like it yet.  But nothing I can do about it, so I might as well try and enjoy it.

Anyway, back to the weekend recap.  This weekend was supposed to start with a softball game on Friday, but yet again it got canceled because of the rain.  So we will try again this weekend.  Instead of softball, I carved pumpkins with my Dad and the fiance and I got a few wedding things done.  We selected the photos we want for our guest book, we ordered the pies for dessert, and we ordered our invitations.  Next on the list is to book the honeymoon.  After all that planning we treated ourselves to a nice dinner at Outback Steakhouse.

Saturday morning I got up and went for a quick run since I took the last few days off.  But then I had to hurry and get ready to meet with a florist.  I took my Mom with me for help and we liked what we saw so we booked the florist.  Things are really falling into place.  After the meeting I had to hurry to meet up with the fiance and some friends for a round of golf.  We played an easy 9-hole course in town which was good for me, because I only play about once a year and rarely practice in between.  After golf we grabbed some lunch and then started getting ready for the brew crawl that evening.

My best friend met up at my place and brought the costumes.  We were dressed as thing 1 and thing 2 and the fiance was the cat in the hat.  The costumes turned out super cute, and the brew crawl was a lot of fun, as always.  Thankfully we live so close to downtown now that we were able to just walk there and didn’t have to worry about driving.  Once the crawl was over we got a pizza to go and walked back to our place for dinner.  By the time we got back and ate, everyone was exhausted.  I’m pretty sure we were all asleep by 10PM.

Sunday morning everyone headed home and the fiance and I had to get ready for the next party.  One of his friend’s from college is having a baby and invited us to the baby shower.  The baby’s due date wasn’t for another couple weeks, but she had a little scare a few days ago and the doctor’s plan to induce her tomorrow.  It’s a good thing they were able to squeeze in this last shower before the baby comes.  The shower was really nice, but unfortunately we weren’t able to stay for the entire thing because my family was having a birthday dinner for me that night.  We did get to stay for lunch, dessert and a few games though.

That night my Mom cooked a special dinner for me that I requested – pork chops and Spanish rice.  For dessert was yellow cake and chocolate frosting.  All of my favorites.  We all had dinner, opened gifts and watched the world series game.  I’m not sure what I will do tonight on my actual birthday, but I’m okay with just taking it easy.  The fiance switched to an earlier shift so we will be able to have dinner together tonight.  Maybe carve some pumpkins and watch a scary movie if I’m lucky.
